Another Journal Cover

Being back to school with musical rehearsal every day after school kicked my butt this last week. It's all good but I had no extra energy to do anything creative, which was a bummer. I'm still FAILING at the reading challenge but I'm up to the pinecone badge. Wooo 4 hours of reading!

Here's another Journal Cover that I made for my sister's birthday. Melissa is in a band, so I figured the cassette block would be fun for her. I sewed this over break on one of those really cold days when I didn't leave the house.

I found the heart fabric at Tuesday Mornings. You can't tell from the picture but the hearts are gold metallic. Very Valentine-y!

I think it turned out pretty cute!

January seems to be a time of new beginnings and challenge joining, so over break I also joined in the Plus Block Quilt Along hosted by Steph who I met at the Omaha Modern Quilt Guild. The quilt along goes from January until the end of February and it's pretty low key, just sew at your own pace. I don't know if I can keep up but I'm going to try. Check out #plusblockQAL on Instagram to see what people are making. Some have finished quilts already! Here's my blocks so far.

My plus signs are going to be solids with a low volume background. Since I want to use scraps for these blocks, I'm using this tutorial from Lori Hartman Designs for 5" finished blocks. The smaller size makes these a perfect scrap buster! I'm gonna keep digging through my bins to see what I've got. I'm hoping to make a couple pillow covers.
