Summer's End
Woooo Saturday! I'm happy to say I've made it through the first week of school. The first week back is always tough and I want to take all the naps every day! Luckily, I was able to sleep in a bit this morning and now I'm enjoying a little time outside on my patio. I was scrolling through my phone photos and realized that I have been doing lots of things but not updating the blog. So here goes, here's what's been going on for the last few weeks, according to my phone.
Do you remember the t-shirt quilt I'm working on? It's going to be for Pastor Jamie and I will tell you more about it when I get it finished! Anyway, when she was packing to move, she found a little bag with some Dresden plate leftovers and gave the bag to me. Yay! There were so many fun vintage pieces in decent shape so I decided to try a Flowering Snowball block. I used the smaller pieces in the bag for the little curved parts and added the solids from my stash. This is the first time I've tried using a glue stick to baste the curved seams together and it worked great, especially on theses small curved pieces. I will definitely glue baste in the future! The blocks are 6" and this piece measures 22.5" square. I'm planning on turning it into a pillow cover or wall hanging. I used this free Flowering Snowball Pattern.
My niece and nephew came to stay with me for a week and that was a blast!! Well, for me it was, I hope they had some fun, too! We did lots of crafty things like made glitter jars and slime. Maddie and I made our own snow cone syrups and did a little sun dyeing. Jimmy had fun playing video games with Gary. They were such good kids and I hope we can have "Aunt Jen Camp" again sometime!
Before I knew it, it was time for the county fair. This year, our Lincoln Modern Quilt Guild held our sew days at the fair. Many of us volunteered to white glove, sell raffle tickets, show quilting technique demos and sew! I sewed one of the days and did a demo on easy fusible transfer for applique the other.
I sewed this Halloween themed table runner at the fair! My friend, Kristie, is teaching a class on the Mini Quick Curve Ruler for the LQG in November and asked if I could test her pattern and make a sample. I can't believe I put this top together that day!
This is the sample I made for my easy fusible demonstration. It turned out really cute but next time, I will leave a little more space on the sides for my arrow points! I enjoyed giving my little demo at the fair because my audience was mostly friends from the guild and they are just so much fun! It made me think back on my grade school 4-H days when mom made me do demonstrations. This was definitely more fun because they fed me chocolate haha.
I entered two quilts in the fair, the "Bon Voy Oz" word quilt and the "Single Roses" wall hanging. I was so happy that they both received blue ribbons, but the wall hanging received judges choice! Wow, that was really special and I am excited about it!
This is getting to be a long post, are you still with me? Haha! This is my latest project, it's an improv stripe quilt. Debbie over at A Quilter's Table hosted a quilt a long and I decided to jump in. These are all scraps! What a fun and easy technique to try. This is a baby quilt size...I'll just add it to my "needs quilting" pile. Oh boy. I've got lots of sewing to do! What are you working on these days?
