WIP WEDNESDAY
After making the t-shirt quilt behemoth, I thought I was done with the t-shirts for awhile. But then, there was still a pile of t-shirts on my sewing room floor.
If you've ever made a t-shirt quilt, you know there are a lot of leftovers. Leftover interfacing pieces and t-shirt carcasses. I couldn't throw them away without cutting out some more pieces, especially the colorful shirts! Plus, what was I going to do with 70 leftover pieces of interfacing?
I cut out the sleeves and shirt bottoms from all the colorful shirts and ironed on the leftover interfacing pieces. For some reason, I was fine with doing this job. I usually hate it!
All the cut up bits and pieces filled a big bag. Now I can throw them away..
or hmmm...
maybe I can use them for stuffing?
This little quilt top is made from the t-shirt sleeves, except the outside blue border, which is from the t-shirt bottoms. I've also got a nice stack of interfaced t-shirt pieces for another project. Those are getting put away for awhile, I'm ready to work on some different projects.
For real this time ha!

I really love to see projects made using every last little scrap. I sometimes get a little overwhelmed if I have too many scraps... I don't know how to store them, use them, or even sort what is usable and what is not.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
I cut all my tshirt scraps into 1" strips to make yarn. I join all the pieces and crochet a rug or basket.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on making some t-shirt yarn out of the black and white shirts!
DeleteI have a box of those t-shirt carcasses under my table...I should probably do something with them ;)
ReplyDeleteYou should! I found out that I like playing with the solid leftover pieces more than making the actual t-shirt quilt!
DeleteI have a ton of my daughter's tee shirts from volleyball, but I've never had the nerve to make a quilt with them. Yours look great! And I'm so impressed that you do them two-sided. I'm really enjoying your photography, too, especially of your flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! The pieced left over shirts could also beused as backing. How nice and soft that would be, Debbie
