Flashback Friday

Flashback to mom and I on the 4th of July, 2000.
I made this quilt wall hanging for my folks and had maybe made two quilts before this one. Difficulty wise, this was the most difficult pattern I had attempted. I remember that I wanted the star blocks to look like they had a round border around them. The pattern didn't have that option, I think I just made it up by sewing triangles to rectangles and then trimming them down to fit.
Look at how none of my seams match :(

Looking at this picture makes me want a redo! I still like it though, even with all the mistakes. I think about how back then, I would just go for something and try it.
Which brings me to this basket...

This is the basket full of blocks that I've tried.
Orphans.
It could be the basket where quilt blocks go to die.
These are my maple leaf blocks that need to be sewn together into a quilt top. They've been in the basket for probably a year and are the newest blocks because they were on the top of the pile.
Look what else I found!

I counted 30 different blocks/projects!
Some of these blocks are singles that I wanted to try and some are leftovers from other projects. I need to figure out what to do with them. Maybe I could make something like this quilt that my friend Kristie made!
So guess what was at the bottom of the basket?
My purple and white scraps.
Hmm.
I've been wondering where those went!

Do you have an orphan block basket?
Let me know if you have any suggestions for what I can do with all these blocks.
Have a great weekend!
