A Little Red, White and Blue

When I saw this quilt on Instagram the other day, I knew I wanted to make it. Not only is it really cute, it's also the 4th of July this week! It's such a simple pattern. I knew I could get it done.
This pattern comes from the book, 101 Fabulous Small Quilts. I don't know what measurements the book calls for since I just copied from a photo. For my blocks, I cut out 4" strips from navy and red fabric to make a 7.5" block. For the sashing, I cut 1.5" strips. The finished wall hanging is about 32" square.
I always feel like my machine quilting looks bad. I'm NOT showing the back of the quilt because the bobbin thread is all bunchy in places. I do think the stars on the navy blocks turned out pretty good though! As I looked at the photos, I noticed that I missed quilting a line in one of the blocks. Oops.
For the binding I tried "Magic Binding". I love it!! It's a binding that uses a main and contrasting fabric to create a piping line right next to the quilt top. I think it looks really sharp. The best part is that it's all sewn by machine, no hand sewing to the back side! Since my thumb is still injured, this method worked great for me!
I really had fun making this little quilt. I can't wait to hang it on the wall!
