Any Way You Slice It Quilt

The spring winds have been a blowin' and today is no different. The South wind may bring us some severe weather later today. It is still April though and there is talk of snow. I'm really hoping for rain. 

Gary and I tried on several occasions to get a photo of this quilt last week but it seemed every day was so windy. Finally on Thursday the winds died down to a warm breeze so we headed out to a park. Lincolnites, can you guess which park?

    It was a beautiful evening with the sun shining on the greening grass. Everyone at the park seemed to be coming out of hibernation. Joggers passed by, wearing shorts that revealed skin that hasn't seen the sun in months. Kids ran at the playground while tired parents watched. A woman slowly walked her old dog, his grey face smiling in the sun. You could see his body wasn't keeping up with the memory of running in his mind. Even so, he was loving the fresh air and a pat on the head from a stranger. Gary and I ate and talked, taking it all in. It was just lovely.

I really love this quilt! (Don't I always say that?) I love how colorful it is but also that I used fabric and batting I already had. I didn't think I would ever use up that brown flowery fabric but the pattern in the book had it and so I went with it. I wouldn't have chosen it myself but I think it works!
Some of the batting I used has been kicking around my stash since my first quilting projects. It was time to toss it or use it. I cut the batting into 7" squares and sewed the fabric strips directly to the batting. This was my first "quilt as you go" project.

For the backing, I used a piece of fabric that's been in my stash for years. I did minimal stitch in the ditch quilting to put it all together. For the binding I chose the solid navy blue to tie it all together.
The quilt measures 49" x 56" and it is hanging on my dining room wall right now.
It's making me pretty happy!
